*When we know each other, we are more able to keep ourselves and our people safe.

This post is part of IWW’s #ReadyThroughRelationship series, where we practice *knowing each other* as the first step to getting ready and staying ready through extreme weather events and sociopolitical unrest. We will not be an org that’s hard to find or unclear about who we are. We are home grown and proudly trans and Indigenous led, disabled and queer. We are transparent and refuse to disappear, even and especially amidst attack. If you see us in the world, say hi or sit with us for a moment.
We are proud to share that IWW’s Executive Director, Chenier “Klie” Kliebert, will be on the mainstage at @change_philanthropy’s UNITY Summit advocating for real, long term investments from philanthropy to communities who need it most – right now and always.

“It’s been three years since the repeal of Roe v. Wade, four years since the Atlanta Shooting, five years since the murder of George Floyd, nine years since the Pulse Night Club Massacre, and twenty years since Hurricane Katrina. As we face cascading crises, what more can allies in the philanthropic sector learn from freedom fighters on the frontlines? How best can philanthropy support advocates and communities beyond the flashpoints in hopes of building durable community-power rooted in equity and embracing respect for a diverse society?”

Klie will be joined by Nekima Levy Armstrong (Founder, @theracialjusticenetwork), Kimberly Inez McGuire (Executive Director, @urge_org), and Repa Mekha (Founder, @nexuscp). The discussion will be moderated by Amanda Andere (Co-President, Neighborhood Funders Group).

If you’re attending UNITY next week in Minneapolis and want to meet up, reach out!
THIS SATURDAY @ The Imagination Farm (2718 Painters St), no one turned away for lack of funds.

$10 Drum Circle

Community and ancestral altar spaces
Hang out with the chickens
Have snacks / bring snacks

CALL FOR PROTECTION: Dear @nanihbvlbancha Community,

Big thanks to all of you for your hearts and hands that helped to build our neutral ground mound here at the end of the Mississippi; and to all who have come through to celebrate the seasons of change with us since 2022. We hope each of you consider yourself stewards of the Nanih and are asking for community to help protect this special site of trade.

In anticipation of a big crowd on the Great Lawn today for the No Kings rally, we are asking community to encourage folks to keep off the mound and to share the request with others; But beyond this day this is an invitation to be in relationship with caretaking of this special place for generations to come.

Operation Dream + Can’t Stop Change: Queer Climate Stories from the Florida Frontlines, Gulf Coast Solidarity, and a Future for New Orleans

@queers4climatejustice

Operation Dream curated by @creating.dejamojo + @diappaix_curates

**Wheelchair accessible, English + Spanish subtitles, single stall bathrooms, cushioned seating**
THIS FRIDAY, July 25, 5-7pm

We knew we wanted to do something to acknowledge the upcoming anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, but doom and gloom has never sat well with us. We prefer to keep our eyes wide open — clear about the past but always focused on what gives us life, what we are building together.

So when we got the chance to partner on Operation Dream, visualizing what 20 years into the future could look like for New Orleans, it was a clear YES for us.

Shoutout to IWW’s @creating.dejamojo (also the artist for the cover of our Queer/Trans Guide to Storms) + @diappaix_curates for dreaming up this much needed show.

We worked with local artist @geaux_brioniclaire on a piece for the show, and @ben.behindthelens, @klie_504, and Ida are featured in the accompanying mini-doc.

———

More details in Diane’s words:

So excited to finally announce the project
@creating.dejamojo and I have been working on since the beginning of the year!

Please join us on July 25 from 5-7 pm at 1440 Canal St, 1st floor for a reception including a performance by @thewomanwhosingsandpaints and the Gaias, followed by a poetry reading by Jebari Lewis!

We will also be premiering an interview documentary we’ve been working hard on!
