Imagine Water Works Hurricane Hub

6000 4000 Imagine Water Works

IWW’s Hurricane Hub is your local, trusted resource for all things storm related. We know that hurricane preparedness can be informed without being overwhelming or scary. We do not use fear tactics or “clickbait” and intentionally do not include pictures of destruction or loss on our website, in our hurricane materials, or on our social media.

Browse the links below for an extensive Hurricane Season Guide with information on preparing your home, evacuation, and more; a simple Hurricane Season Checklist if you just need to make sure you’ve got the basics covered; a Waterproof Folder Checklist of important documents or items to keep safe; and a beautiful Queer/Trans Guide to Storms with art and practical advice from dozens of LGBTQ artists and neighbors. Scroll to the bottom of this page for additional resources, including Mucking and Gutting, DIY Mold Remediation, and FEMA information.

Our hurricane information is updated frequently, extensively fact checked by individuals with trained and lived experience, and builds off generations of knowledge from native New Orleanians. It is shared not just locally, but regionally and globally. Please help us keep each other safe by donating or emailing cherry@imaginewaterworks.org with funding partnership opportunities.

The resources below were not created by IWW, but have been vetted by our team. Contributors include The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies and Saint Bernard Project (SBP).

A storm isn’t coming right now, but I still need help. Where can I go?

How do I join IWW’s mutual aid efforts?

  • As neighbors, we support each other year round. If you live in the Greater New Orleans Area, the quickest way to plug in is through our Facebook group, Imagine Mutual Aid (New Orleans), where you can ask for and offer supplies and information any time. We also use this group to share ideas and solidarity actions. Otherwise, follow our social media or subscribe to our newsletter to learn more about the Mutual Aid Response Network, including in-person events as they are scheduled. Join “Imagine Mutual Aid (New Orleans)” online HERE.

Does Imagine Water Works accept donations?

  • Yes! We can accept both large and small donations by appointment only to support individuals, nonprofits, and small businesses in preparing for or recovering from storms and floods. Please note that our ability to accept your donation will depend on many factors, including current needs of the community, physical space on site, team availability, and other factors. Email ben@imaginewaterworks.org with information about your donation, including the size or quantity of the item(s).

Can my organization or business use your materials?

  • Yes! Just like with the New Orleans Community Resource Guide, we encourage other groups to share information with your people as much as possible. We just ask that you credit us and share our materials in their entirety. If your group would require edits, including contents, logos, or other brand standards in order to print copies, email klie@imaginewaterworks.org. We would be happy to work with you.

What does the future of the IWW Hurricane Hub look like?

  • Thanks for asking (lol). The IWW Hurricane Hub is a “living” resource – meaning, we will be improving it over time and updating it frequently with new offerings, storm-specific information, mutual aid efforts, and more. Follow our social media for updates, or be sure to check back in periodically.

Can I volunteer to translate materials, map resources, make graphics, etc?

  • Yes, we love to see it! Email klie@imaginewaterworks.org (or find us in person) to plug in.
